Planning Editing
Editing styles are important to include within a thriller film because they help the audience focus on certain things in the film and it also intrigues the audience by adding dramatic effect. Editing styles also make the thriller sequence seem scarier and portrays the vulnerability of the victim.
The first editing style i will use in my opening thriller sequence will be slow editing. This will be used when the victim is making her way towards the curtain and she see's objects on the floor. This technique builds up suspense for the audience and keeps them on edge. This is conventional to the thriller genre as the suspense being built engages the audience into waiting to see what will happen next and the dramatic slow editing builds a relationship with the audience and the character as they feel scared and weary for the innocent victim as they know something bad is about to happen to her.

The next editing style i will use in my opening thriller sequence will be reaction shot. This will be when the victim see's the killer in the window and when she see's him standing behind her. This technique puts the audience in the victims position and makes helps them relate back to what is happening as they are experiencing it themselves. This technique builds a relationship between the audience and the innocent character as the audience feel more sympathetic for her as the expressions on the girls face is clearly understood by the audience as they feel they are the victim about to get hurt in the thriller film. The audience also build a relationship with the characters as they feel intimidated by the antagonist which links a relationship with the audience and the victim as they both feel vulnerable. This is conventional to the thriller genre as it creates an element of surprise and suspense and intrigues the audience into wanting to watch the rest of the sequence to find out what else is going to happen.

Thirdly, the next editing style i will use in my opening thriller sequence will be linking of sections. This will be used when the flash backs take place. This technique makes the audience understand the plot more and intrigues them to watch the rest of the film. This builds a relationship with the characters and the audience as it makes the audience feel more sympathetic for the innocent victim in the sequence as the suspense and tension being built up by this technique makes them assume something is definitely about to take place and harm the victim. This is conventional to the thriller genre as it creates tension for the audience and the suspense keeps them ready and on edge waiting for something bad to happen or something thrilling to jump out on them.
The last technique i will be using in my opening thriller sequence will be Kuleshov effect. This will be used when she see's the dead body and the knife on the floor. This technique makes the audience feel sympathy for the victim and foreshadow events that will happen to her. This is conventional to the thriller genre as it makes the audience intrigued and ready to find out what is going to happen next. This builds a relationship with the audience and the characters as the audience can see what she is going to go through so feel scared and worried for her as they see harmful weapons on the floor in a dangerous environment which can only lead them to thinking she is going to be seriously hurt or even killed.
My planning of editing styles will help create a conventional opening thriller sequence as it sets the emotions and helps the understandings of what is happening in the film to the audience. My target audience will build relationship with the characters as the editing techniques used will all engage them more making them feel the elements of; shock, suspense and surprise which will make their experience of watching the thriller better and make the sequence more successful. The different techniques used is to create a menacing affect and not only to entice the audience but to also thrill them at certain parts when they least expect it. The reaction shot will show the facial expressions and body language used which will create surprise and will shock the audience even more as they will understand what the character is going through and feeling more.
